Nepal has imported electric vehicles (EVs) worth Rs 18.93 billion through the Tatopani border point with China over the past two fiscal years, according to the Tatopani Customs Office. The imports generated Rs 10.45 billion in revenue for the government, as reported by Gorkhapatra Online.
A total of 7,492 electric vehicles entered Nepal through the Khasa-Tatopani trade route during the period. Customs officials say EV imports from China have risen sharply in the current fiscal year, highlighting the country’s increasing adoption of electric mobility.
By the end of Falgun in fiscal year 2082/83, Nepal had imported 34 electric minibuses with seating capacity of 15 to 25 passengers and 479 microbuses with 11 to 14 seats. The country also brought in 350 electric cars, jeeps, and vans above 50 kW, 934 EVs in the 51–100 kW category, and 180 vehicles in the 101–200 kW segment.
Imports during the same period also included four EVs in the 201–300 kW category, one EV above 300 kW, three vehicles above 2,000cc equivalent, two electric trucks, six three-wheelers, 104 four-wheelers, five delivery vans, and one other electric vehicle.
In fiscal year 2081/82, Nepal imported one electric bus, 251 minibuses with 15–20 seats, and 809 microbuses with 11–14 seats. Additionally, 888 electric cars, jeeps, and vans up to 50 kW were imported, along with 781 EVs in the 51–100 kW category and 486 vehicles in the 101–200 kW range.
The previous fiscal year also saw the import of 12 EVs in the 201–300 kW category, one EV above 300 kW, 18 double-cab electric pickup vehicles above 2,000cc equivalent, four electric trucks, and 118 four-wheeler electric cars.
